April Morning in Vermont

Posted by
John (Williston, Vermont, United States) on 16 June 2014 in Abstract & Conceptual.

This was taken on a walk along the Winooski River on Easter morning. See if you can figure out what is happening here. (Hint: late April in northern Vermont)

Nothing like a little frost.

@JudiK: Good, Judith. There had been a hard frost that morning, but by late April the sun is strong enough to melt it quickly. Hence, the gray was already melted and dry, while the ice crystals in the shade reflected the blue from the sky. the white stripe is where they sun is now shining but has not yet melted the ice.
